In 2015, the conductor Gordon Safari founded BachWerkVokal Salzburg and Kontra.Punkt - Kontra.Punkt – Das Barockorchester in the city of W.A. Mozart. A name that is a program, because all J.S. Bach's vocal works are to be performed over the next few years. The BachWerkVokal project is currently unique in its orientation in Austria.
The special "sound" of BachWerkVokal Salzburg can be explained by the fact that in this vocal ensemble all members are soloists and at the same time ensemble singers. The result is an intense and at the same time slim ensemble sound. Under the artistic direction of Gordon Safari, BachWerkVokal Salzburg has been able to establish itself within the Salzburg cultural scene within a short time and is now regularly performing concert engagements in other European countries.
BachWerkVokal Salzburg opens - in addition to classical concert formats - new perspectives on this unique testimony of Western cultural history. Alternative and creative, sometimes even provocative program concepts, such as interactions with visual artists, dancers, video animations and also scenic realizations complete their offer and invite to a reflected and contemporary examination of J.S. Bach's vocal work.
The work of J.S. Bach is the central point of reference for Gordon Safari and the ensemble members of BachWerkVokal Salzburg. J.S. Bach is, as Max Reger aptly put it, "the beginning and end of all music". BachWerkVokal Salzburg and its artistic director are also committed to this word. The combination of J.S. Bach's repertoire, both with early music (15th and 16th century) as well as with the literature of the 19th and 20th centuries happens as a deliberate "broadening of horizons" without creating a confusable arbitrariness.
BachWerkVokal Salzburg also sees itself as a platform for young singers. Through regular auditions it is possible to qualify for the ensemble. |
