Ilia Marinescu (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Pantin, France

The French mezzo-soprano (and former soprano), Ilia Marinescu, obtained her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Strasbourg Business School (2014-2015). She studied under the guidance of Roberta Invernizzi for her Master of Arts degree in Ealy Music Singing at MUK - Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien (September 2017-2022).

Ilia Marinescu, who is particularly appreciated in the Baroque and Classical repertoire, excels as a concert soloist. Her experience includes solo roles in J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245), St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and A Major Mass (BWV 234), W.A. Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate and Coronation Mass, L.v. Beethoven's Ah Perfido! and Schubert's G Major Mass. She has also performed rare pieces such as La Cantate de Jonas by Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre and Le Soleil vainqueur des nuages by Nicolas Clerambault. She has sung with various orchestras and ensembles such as Camerata Saint-Louis de Paris, Concerto Sacro, La Clé des Chants and Inn-Salzach-Euregio Youth Orchestra and has worked with Theodor Guschlbauer, Erwin Ortner, Ingmar Beck, Georges Guillard and Régis de La Roche, among others.

Her previous and future performances include her debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus with her Baroque ensemble Purling Streams Ensemble in June 2023, her debut at the Luxembourg Philharmonie as a soloist in December 2023 and George Frideric Handel's Messiah in Tull in May 2024. She is also a member of the renowned ensemble BachWerkVokal Salzburg (Director: Gordon Safari) since June 2023, with whom she will participate in many projects as an alto soloist and ensemble singer in 2023 and 2024. Previously she was a member of Arnold Schoenberg Chor (August 2017-January 2020).

Ilia Marinescu also works as Freelance Translator at Übersetzungsbüro Colis (since May 2017) and at Connect Translations (since August 2019). She currently lives in Vienna, Austria.
