Gila Brill (Choral Conductor)

Born: Rehovot, Israel

The Israeli choral conductor, Gila Brill (Hebrew: âéìä áøéì), negan her involvement in choirs as a child, when she sang as a soloist in the Jerusalem Conservatory Choir, which was later called "Anchor", conducted by the late Arnon Maroz. She graduated from choral conducting studies at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, in Avner Itai's class. She also studied singing in the voice department of the academy and took extensive courses with Aharon Harlap and Frieder Bernius.

In 1994, at the end of her studies, Gila Brill gathered graduates of youth choirs and music students, and founded the semi-professional Shahar Choir with them, while deepening their education in choral singing. She serves as the choir's conductor and music director ever since. With the Shahar Choir she performed on the best concert stages in Israel, and today she is one of the leading choir conductors in Israel. Shahar Choir has also peformed under leading conductors from all over the world. Shahar Choir performed artistic, classical and popular modern music, a-cappella and with the leading orchestras and ensembles in Israel.

Throughout the years Gila Brill has also engaged in vocal coaching and direction of teachers and children’s choirs, and was one of the founders of the Israel Choral Organization, Hallel. She has been a member of the organization's elected committee since its inception. In 2010, she founded the children's choir of the municipal conservatory in Nes Ziona. Since 2000 she has also been the conductor of the Mevsherat-Zion Choir.
