Junger Kammerchor Basel (Chamber Choir)

Founded: 2016 - Basel, Switzerland

The Junger Kammerchor Basel (Young Chamber Choir Basel) is made up of classically trained professional singers, committed amateurs and singers from the jazz and folk music scene. This collaboration between professional and semi-professional singers, which is unique in the Basel region, has established the choir under the direction of Tobias Stückelberger as an agile, versatile and risk-taking ensemble. The chamber choir is particularly young in its varied, dynamic programming, which, in addition to masterpieces of a cappella literature from all eras, also includes rarely performed works from the 20th century as well as new arrangements of choral symphonic works.

The Junger Kammerchor Basel was founded in 2016 and comes together on a project-by-project basis for 3-4 concert programs per year, which are performed in the Basel area. The ensemble has already performed works such as Alfred Schnittke's Concerto for Choir, Sergei Rachmaninov's All Night Vigil, J.S. Bach's Motets and J. Haydn's Nelson Mass. Further projects with Norwegian folk music as well as the performance of the Estonian anti-war epic “Raua Needmine” testify to the diversity of the repertoire. With its CD recording “von der Wiige bis zum Graab”, released in 2021, the choir presents text fragments by the Bern artist Adolf Wölfli in settings by Per Nørgård and Jonas Marti (first recording). In autumn 2022, the Junge Kammerchor Basel performed the adaptation of the Mass in A flat major by Franz Schubert in the version for choir, solos and octet (revision: Johannes Raiser) as part of the project “Schubert Singt. Schubert Tanzt”. The program was performed both in a classic concert hall and in a club, where after the concert the DJ Gabriel Prokoview played a Schubert remix: the Junge Kammerchor Basel stands for a lively, dynamic choral sound with innovative concert projects.
