Andrea Balzer (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: Burglengenfeld, Upper Palatinate, Germany

The German choral conductor, organist and church musician, Andrea Balzer, passed in 1989 the State. Music maturity examination B church music, with State Music maturity examination in piano (Musikhochschule Bayreuth) and Internship at St. Lorenz, Nürnberg. In 1993 she recived Artistic Diploma A church music, graduated as music teacher at the Musikhochschule Würzburg.

After her studies, Andrea Balzer derved as Kantorin at the Liebfrauenkirche Witzenhausen / North Hesse (1994-1998). Since 1994, she has been working with the vocal ensembles: Swinging Voices, VoiceSix, Schweinfurter Kammerchor and VoiceProject. On November 1, 1998 she was apponted Kantorin and Dekanatskantorin at St. Johannis, Schweinfurt; and married the biologist/environmental engineer Karsten Balzer. During 2003-2004, she studied "Popular music in the church area" at Bundesakademie Trossingen. In 2005-2007, she was Artistic Director of the girls' choir Junge Stimmen Windsbach; since 2007: continuation of the girls' choir Junge Stimmen in Schweinfurt.

Andrea Balzer has appeared in numerous organ concerts, as conductor of various choirs and orchestras, and in guest concerts e.g. in Scotland and Poland, especially with the Kantorei St. Johannis (among others): Felix Mendelssohn: Lobgesang-Symphonie and oratorio Elias; J.S. Bach: Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248); George Frideric Handel: Judas Maccabeus; W.A. Mozart: Krönungsmesse; Johannes Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem; Maurice Duruflé: Requiem Op. 9. In May 2008 she made a concert tour with the Kantorei St. Johannis to Finland (Seinäjoki, Lapua, Vaasa: including Requiem by M. Duruflé); in October 2008: G. Rossini: Petite Messe Solennelle.
