Has anybody heard of it? |
Riccardo Nughes wrote (July 1, 2001):
[To Marten Breuer] By the way,
I've seen in the shop 2 new releases :
- S. Kuijken, Sonate e partite per violino solo, his second recording always on DHM;
- O. Dantone (member of "Il Giardino Armonico"), WTC Book 1, ARTS RECORDS. |

Suzuki Cantatas 14 & Brandenburgs |

< P.S. Did I miss in August the thorough discussion on the recent Masaaki Suzuki recordings like vol. 14 of Cantatas and Brandenburg Concertos? No signs of it ... >
I have both - I also remember promising to write a review on the Brandenburgs but still haven't had time to do it yet. I will get round to doing this soon. In the mean time, I'd simply like to say that I remain greatly impressed with both recordings. Relaxed, warm, confident performances - the Brandenburgs are up there with my other favourite recording (Tafelmusik) and the Cantatas disc is still managing to improve on what is already an exemplary and important set - in particular the women soloists have gained an authority and confidence that seemed slightly lacking in the earlier recordings. |

[To Peter Bright] I remember your posts! As well as your promise!! ;-) Please, find some time and write down your thoughts - there are so many (even if this is not the Bach Year!) new and fascinating recordings. Shall we stay with Gould, Richter and Tureck forever? /hmm, obviously ironic comment;-) I'm actually listening to the vol. 14 for the second time - wonderful recording - no need to say - like almost all previous ones. And I've already ordered BB's - hopefully will be able to join you within few days. So, put your copies (of both CDs!) into your player, and - please - write as your comments. |
Piotr Jaworski wrote (September 3, 2001):
[To Peter Bright] And I also have - finally - both!
And since the BBs came today (BIS 1151/1152), I can only say that this seems to be the perfect rendition for those ones who rather prefer "no extremes!" approach. Great performance and wonderful, crispy sound; that's for now. More, when I'll listen more.
About the vol. 14 of the Cantatas (BIS 1081) - I like it more and more, however I'm really passionate about this series from the beginning, almost without serious reservations. So, when we will present both discs to the rest? |
