Tamar Zhvania (Piano)

Born: 1985 (?) - Tbilisi, Georgia

The Georgian pianist and music teacher, Tamar Zhvania, showed a talent for music from her earliest years. At the age of 5 she was admitted as an exception to the Experimental Music School for Talented Children (piano class), at the age of 8 she participated in the project "New Names" which promoted young musical talents. As a result of the remarkable education she entered the V. Saradjishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire at the age of 16 receiving for her performance the highest marks. Guided by the famous Georgian pianist Professor Nana Khubutia, she took the Bachelor's and the Master's degrees in Solo Performance, piano (2000-2006). After the successful graduation from the Conservatoire in 2005 Tamar went as DAAD grant holder to Germany to study at the R. Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf in the class of C. Beldi (2005-2006). Experience gained while studying in Germany helped her in her success at the Vienna International Piano Competition 2006 where she won the First Prize and the Special Prize of the Mayor of Vienna, followed by the recital in Eroica Saal, Vienna. Upon her return from Germany, she continued her studies at the V. Saradjishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire, obtaining her Certificate of Post-graduate Study (Aspirantura) in Solo Performance, Piano (2006-2008); and her DMA degree (2009-2012; dissertation on "Three Part Inventions by J.S. Bach").

Tamar Zhvania is active as a pianist, music teacxher and musicologist. Her doctoral dissertation observes issues of interpretation of three part inventions by J.S. Bach. As a soloist and member of piano duo Zhvaniasisters she concertizes both on national and international levels. She is Piano teacher at Z.Paliashvili Central Music School No.1 in Tbilisi, Georgia (since 2008), holding a course of lectures and practical lessons on Baroque Music (initiated and developed by T. Zhvania); and Teacher, lecturer at Tbilisi V. Sarajishvili State Conservatoire (since September 2015), teaching the Piano.
