Mark Terenzi (Piano, Conductor)

Born: USA

The American pianist and conductor, Mark Terenzi, received his early training in piano from King Bosworth. He later studied with Herbert Stessin at the Juilliard Pre-College Division, Karen Shaw and Enrica Cavallo-Gulli at the Indiana University School of Music. During his years at Indiana, he won the 1979 Young Artists Competition of the South Orange (New Jersey) Symphony, and performed L.v. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the orchestra. In graduate school, Terenzi majored in choral conducting while continuing his performing on the piano, and holds a masters and doctorate in choral conducting from Indiana University.

In the 1980's, Mark Terenzi served on the piano faculty of the summer fine arts center at Belvoir Terrace in Lenox, Massachusetts, where he also performed piano recitals. From 1990 to 1997 he served on the music department faculties of Rutgers University, William Paterson University, and Blackburn College of Illinois, where his duties included directing choirs, teaching courses in theory, conducting, and private piano and performing as a faculty pianist. His Blackburn College Choir toured many cities, including Indianapolis, New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, Nashville, and Atlanta.

Mark Terenzi joined the faculty of Kean University in Union, New Jersey in 1997, where he is Chairperson of the music department and Choral Director. Under his direction, the Kean University Concert Choir has doubled in size and has performed major works with orchestra, and has toured Boston, Washington D.C., Montreal, and Baltimore. Terenzi has also been a frequent chamber music player and accompanist at the school, and has been an adjudicator for several New Jersey piano competitions/auditions, including those of the Music Educators Association, the South Jersey Music Teachers Association, and the Andrew George De Grado Foundation, Inc. He is also the conductor of the Bloomfield Chorale.
