Motettenchor Speyer (Choir)

Founded: 1986 - Speyer, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

The Motettenchor Speyer was founded in 1986 by director Marie-Theres Brand, who led the choir for over 30 years. After Stephan Rahn and Sebastian Schlöffel, Julia Pyka took over the artistic direction of the choir in 2022.

The choir's repertoire includes sacred and secular choral literature from all stylistic eras up to premieres of contemporary music. A cappella music, mainly early European, is a focus; However, the creation of oratorios is also part of the program.

Since its founding, the choir has maintained contacts with many foreign choirs. They have given concerts in: Norway, England, France, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Russia, Spain, Jamaica, Greece and China.

The choir won prizes at the Landeschorwettbewerb, and had made radio and television recordings, CD recordings
