Seoul Metropolitan Chorus (Choir)

Founded: 1978 - Seoul, South Korea

The Seoul Metropolitan Choir (= SMC; Korean: 서울시합창단), which is loved by citizens for its rich tone and diverse repertoire, was founded in 1978 as the Seoul Metropolitan Choir and performed the opera Die Fledermaus (Invited by the Vienna Opera Group) to commemorate the opening of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and the 1st regular concert, Johannes Brahms Starting with 'Song of Love', about 101 regular concerts and 110 special performances have been held. In the meantime, through regular concerts, Henry Purcell's Come Musicians, Johannes Brahms' Three Religious Choruses for Women, and Niels' Fantasie for a Happy May were premiered in Korea, and interest in religious music was shown. Schubert's Mass in G Major, W.A. Mozart's C Minor Credo, Haydn's Harmony Mass, César Franck's Solemn Mass, Kurt Weil's Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Dvořák's Our Lady of Sorrows. The Choir has performed 40 masses and cantatas, including 12, and invited the Greek Smith Choir of the USA to perform together.

The Seoul Metropolitan Choir was invited to performances by the Vienna Opera and La Scala Opera Company, and the domestic premiere in 1986 with the Seoul Metropolitan Opera Company, performances such as Andrea Chenier, Nabucco and La Gioconda, and more than 50 operas with famous domestic opera companies. In particular, through an opera planned by the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, the choir showed the essence of opera chorus, where emotional expression and volume are essential requirements. In addition, choir class performances that show the theory and practice of chorus for young people, Seoul Music Festival, Korea Music Festival, National Theater New Year's Concert, Seoul Arts Center Opening Concert, MBC Youth Concert, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Year-end Concert, etc. In addition to domestic performances, in 1989, the choir toured 13 cities in 3 European countries (France, Austria, Switzerland). In 1991, he was invited to the 10th International Art Festival in Taiwan and performed at In February, they performed tours in Velletri, Italy and Rome, promoting Seoul, Korea to Europe, and at the same time playing a role as cultural diplomatic missions. In addition, the choir has been actively participating in various forms of performances for citizens and domestic and international events by actively focusing on cultivating citizens' emotions and cultural development, as well as performing various forms of performances such as community halls and school tours so that they can enjoy choirs close and comfortably. are active.
