Kozue Sato (Flute)

Born: Japan

The Japanes-born flautist, Kozue Sato, first studied school music at the Pedagogical University in her home country. During her studies she received the award for "Best up-and-coming musical talent" from the city of Sapporo and the 1st Prize of the HIMES (Hokkaido International Music Society) competition, the prize money of which enabled her to study in Germany. She completed her artistic diploma at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich in the studio of Professor Klaus Schochow. Shortly thereafter she received the music promotion prize of the Kulturkreis Gasteig Munich. Years of further training followed with Philippe Boucly (Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphonieorchester), later for transverse flute with Marion Treupel-Franck. The master-classes with Barthold Kuijken, Marcello Gatti (transverse flute), Burga Schwarzbach (body training), Han Tol (recorder) provided her important musical impulses.

Kozue Sato lives in Germany, performs as a soloist and as a chamber musician in Germany and abroad. She deals intensively with early music on historical instruments as well as with new music. She has taken part in well-known events, including Kulturtage in Kreta, Lange Nacht der Musik in Nuremberg (BR Studio Franken) or Inmusica in Milan. She performs with the Baroque orchestra La Banda and has been lecturer at the Cathdic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt since 2013.

Kozue Sato is the initiator of various projects in which she takes over the concert design and is particularly committed to promoting young talent. Since 2011 she has been leading a formation for early music, Ensemble Barockin'.

The world premieres and radio recordings with compositions by Minas Borboudakis or Igor Loboda, among others, complement her discography. She currently lives in Ingolstadt an der Donau.
