Jost Salm (Choral Conductor)

Born: May 28, 1962 - Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

The German choral conductor, Jost Salm, started his musical training as a singer in the Lübecker Knabenkantorei an St. Marien. He went on to study music teaching and singing at the Musikhochschule Lübeck (University of Music) and at the Folkwang Hochschule (University of the Arts) in Essen.

In 1992, Jost Salm became a vocal coach and assistant choir director for the concert choir of the Tölzer Knabenchor (July 1992-January 2006). He has collaborated with Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, James Levine, Riccardo Muti and Zubin Mehta and others at leading international opera and concert houses in the USA, Japan, Israel and throughout Europe, including the Scala in Milan, the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Berlinoperahouses, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Salzburger Festspiele.

In February 2006, Jost Salm was appointed as the director of the Knabenchor der Chorakademie Dortmund. Within only a short period of time, Jost Salm restructured the Knabenchor der Chorakademie Dortmund according to his own ideas in order to facilitate professional and child-oriented work. He currently lives in Syburg, North Rhine-Westphalia.
