Laura Pontecorvo (Lute)

Born: Rome, Italy

The Italian flautist, Laura Pontecorvo, studied under Marianne Eckstein, Peter Lukas Graf and Marc Hantaï.

For years Laura Pontecorvo has been performing in some of the most important concert seasons in the world with various orchestral and chamber music groups such as Concerto Italiano (Director: Rinaldo Alessandrini) (for which she has been first flute since 1998), Europa Galante (Director: Fabio Biondi), Accademia Bizantina (Director: Ottavio Dantone), Orquestra Divino Sospiro (Director: Enrico Onofri), Accordone (Director: Guido Morini), La Cappella della Pieta del Turchini (Director: Toni Florio), L'Arte dell'Arco (Director: Federico Guglielmo) with which she has participated in numerous festivals and concert seasons in Italy and abroad: the Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Gotham Early Music Foundation at Lincoln Center in New York, Kioi Hall in Tokyo, La Folle Journee in Tokyo, Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia in Rome, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, Teatro Municipal in Santiago Chile and Rio de Janeiro, Sociedad de Cultura Artistica in Sao Paulo, Theatre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris, Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Festival Internacionald e Musica in Cartagena (Colombia), Opera House in Oslo, Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra Season in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, ORF Radio Season in Vienna, Stagione e Dias de Musica in the Belem Cultural Center in Lisbon, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Concertos Portugal Telecom in Lisbon, Lufthansa Festival of Ancient Music in London, Flanders Festival, Bath Festival, Festival of Beaune and others. She has performed as soloist in Japan, the USA, Columbia, Holland, France, Israel, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium and Austria; she has recorded for Opus 111, Naive, Stradivarius, Brilliant, Dynamic, Inedita.

Laura Pontecorvo is Professor of Chamber Music at the Conservatory of Music in Ferrara (since December 2017) and she teaches Baroque Flute at the Institute of Higher Education Giulio Briccialdi in Terni. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 she was invited to hold master-classes on the Baroque transverse flute at the Escola Superior de Musica in Lisbon and at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Mijsica in Madrid. In 2013 she held a master-class at the Universitat für Musik and darstellende Kunst in Vienna.

During a recent sabbatical year, Laura Pontecorvo carried out research in the archives of the Holy Convent Library of Assisi on the origin of the collection of musical instruments preserved there, later publishing an essay in Recercare, Rivista per lo studio e la pratica della musica antica. Fruit of the same research is also the CD by the Ensemble Helianthus which has recently come out on the Brilliant label: "L'e'tanto tempo hormai: G.B. Buonamente and the Collection of Instruments at the Holy Convent in Assisi". In the spring of 2014 the next CD made by the group is expected, "Chamber music for transverse flute", a recording of the Quartets for flute, viola and harpsichord obbligato composed by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in the last year of his life. She currently lives in Rome, Italy.
