Studio Orfelin (Choir & Orchestra)

Founded: Novi Sad, Serbia

Vocal studio - choir and orchestra Orfelin was formed in 2009 in Novi Sad, Serbia. It performs mainly the thematic projects, promoting the everlasting values of classical music, related to the great Christian holidays, historical epochs and significant anniversaries. Members are music professionals and experienced amateur singers from the renowned choir St Stephen of Dechani, students of the Music Academy in Novi Sad and the Isidor Bajić Music School. The ensemble performed at numerous concerts of Baroque music, where in co-operation with the Belgrade Baroque Soloists and Makris Symphony Orchestra it performed madrigals, motets, cantatas and oratorios by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, W.A. Mozart. etc. Special place in Orfelin repertoire belongs to the Serbian music of all periods; the music play about Kornelije Stanković’s life and work was performed many times and is favourite among the wide audience. Orfelin draws the inspiration from the complex and renaissance personality of Zaharije Orfelin, one of the most prominent, but also most unusual Serbian artists.
