Hiromi Okada (Piano)

Born: Obihiro, Toyama prefecture, Japan

The Japoanese pianist, Hiromi Okada (Japanese: 岡田博美), studied with Jinichiro Andoand ​and ​Yoshiki Moriyasu at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo where he graduated with the highest honours. While ehe was a student at Toho Gakuen University, he won the 1st place in the 48th Japanese Music Competition. After graduating from Toho Gakuen University at the top, he won the 1st prize at the 28th Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona in 1982; the 1st prize in the piano section of the 2nd Japan International Music Competition in Tokyo in 1983; and the 2nd Pretoria International Competition in 1984. He won the 1st place one after another and attracted attention. In 1984, he moved to London to study with Maria Curcio.

Hiromi Okada made his debut recital at Wigmore Hall in London in 1985 and receiving outstanding critical acclaim - “undoubtedly a star of the future” (Daily Telegraph). Hilary Finch has commented in The Times, “A technique of massive assurance, imaginatively developed to articulate a passionately engaged musical understanding”. He has also held recitals in Japan with an ambitious program. He won the 20th Japan Chopin Association Award for his 1993 Frédéric Chopin complete Etudes performance.

As well as touring extensively in Japan and throughout Europe, Hiromi Okada has appeared as soloist with well-known domestic and international orchestras, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra de Genova and major Japanese orchestras. In May 2011, he performed L.v. Beethoven's "Emperor" at the Philharmonia Orchestra Subscription Concert in England, which was well received. His repertoire covers from classics to contemporary music. He is also active in chamber music, and he has been a hot topic with members of the Wiener Philharmoniker, Atsuko Tenma on violin, and Narimichi Kawabata.

Hiromi Okada also has performed at numerous international music festivals, including Mayfest (Glasgow, Scotland), La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival (France), The Great Romantics Festival (Hamilton, Canada), Istanbul International Piano Festival, Philharmonic Week (Steinbach, Austria), Tokyo Summer Festival, and Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy and Festival, La Rock Dantelon International Piano Festival, etc.

CD's been continuously released released from Camerata Tokyo, Toshiba-EMI, and Naxos in the fields of solo and chamber music, receiving ecstatic reviews.

Hiromi Okada is working as a professor of piano in Toho Gakuen Graduate School since 2015. In recent years, he has held master-classes in Canada and Japan to teach her younger generation.
