Hiroshi Nagao (Piano)

Born: April 26, 1963 - Shibetsu-gun, Hokkaido, Japan

The Japanese pianist, Hiroshi Nagao (Japanese: 長尾洋史), completed the Department of Instrumental Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts and the master's program at the same graduate school. He studied under Yuushi Munehiro, Michiko Endo, and Jiro Yoneya. He won the Ataka Award while attending school. Later he won the 1st Takarazuka Vega Music Competition (1989), and 1st place at 1991 HIMES Overseas Music Trainee Dispatch Selection Competition (1991). In 1995, he studied abroad at the Ecole Normale Conservatory (Paris).

In addition to planning Ital and "Hiroshi Nagao Ensemble Series", Hiroshi Nagao has appeared in many music festivals such as "Summer in Tokyo" and "Saito Kinen Festival", and NHK "Meikyoku Recital". He has a wide repertoire from classical to romantic to modern. In the field of contemporary music, he has premiered many works both inside and outside Japan.

Hiroshi Nagao has performed with major domestic orchestras such as NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, etc. He has performed with many domestic and foreign orchestra players such as Maxance Larue (flute), Jean-Yves Fulmo (saxophone), Michel Becquet (trombone), Walter Auer (flute), Eric Ovie, Genzo Kitamura (trumpet), Pavel Becquet (violin), and as Pavel Bellman (violin).

In addition, Hiroshi Nagao's activities are diverse, including the premiere of many works both domestically and internationally, appearances at music festivals such as Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto and Suntory Hall Summer Festival, and media appearances such as NHK.

His solo CD's include "Evo Casion", "Hiroshi Nagao Plays Ravel & Debussy" (Live Notes) and in 2010, a piano duo with Ami Fujiwara "Messiaen: Visions de l'Amen (all songs)" (Kojima Recording), "Playing Liszt & Lager" (Kojima Recording, released August 2011). Many releases have been made, including co-starring with Walter Auer (flute), Michelle Becke (trombone), Eric Aubier (trumpet), Jiro Yoshioka (flute) and Etsuko Kanoh (mezzo-soprano), and have been well received in various newspapers.

Hiroshi Nagao is a former associate professor at Kunitachi College of Music and a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts.

He is one of the few performers who can listen to hot and fresh music in a beautiful sound with a transparent core and a precise and elaborate technique. (Distributor information)
