Makiko Mizunaga (Harpsichord)

Born: 1975 - Tokyo, Japan

The Japanese harpsichordist, Makiko Mizunaga (Japanese: 水永牧子), studied from an early age at Toho Gakuen Music School for Children. She studied piano under Yukiko Sakai. She graduated from Toho Gakuen College of Ancient Musical Instruments. She then completed the Graduate School of the Freiburg University of Music with the highest grades and was the first to obtain the German national harpsichord soloist diploma. While studying abroad, she participated in the project of Gubai Durina and performed with Maurice Andre in various parts of Europe. She won 2nd Prize at the 1999 Montreal International Harpsichord Competition, M.D. Received the highest award for Goneville's contemporary works.

Makiko Mizunaga performed in various parts of Europe while studying abroad. In 2001 she gave her solo recital debut in Tokyo. As an harpsichord player she is engaged in a variety of activities that go beyond the boundaries of traditional early music players, from Baroque to contemporary works, and from solo activities to ensembles of various forms. In 2005 Tokyo Opera City she participated in Recital Series "B → C", in 2015 "La Forge Rene Kanazawa", Educational Arts Company", in 2016 Junior High School Music Digital Textbook", "Harpsichord DVD Book-History and Style Genealogy-" "(Written by Akira Kubota), and is currently widely active. She was involved in the development of Roland's electronic harpsichord "C-30" and also demonstrated it.

Her grandfather (Masamitsu Oshima) was taught by Dr. Clark as the first student of Sapporo Agricultural College, and was involved in the Hokkaido University Poplar Avenue Regeneration Project, which was damaged by the typhoon in 2004. In 2006, he was in charge of the unveiling performance of the harpsichord made of poplar. It was widely taken up in newspapers and became a hot topic.

Other than solo, Makiko Mizunaga started in 1996 activities as a member of the early music ensemble "La Fontaine", with which she won 2nd Prize at the 11th Yamanashi Early Music Competition Ensemble category. In 2000, they won the 2nd Prize in the ensemble section of the Bruges International Competition and also won the Audience Award. They participated in the London SBC Music Festival and the York Early Music Festival, and arranged and performed the theme music for NHK's Nicely Gardening Life. In addition, she is also active as an ensemble such as "Aqua Trinity" and "Oizumi Baroque", and as a basso continuo player for each soloist. She was Agency for Cultural Affairs overseas trainee in 2001. She studied the harpsichord under the late Motoko Nabeshima and Robert Hill.

Five solo CDs have been released: "Domenico Scarlatti Sonatas" (Entre, 2003), "Dreaming Rain" (Victor Entertainment, 2003), "English Garden" (Victor, 2006), England The Sweet-Minstrels' Songs & Variations" (Hamamatsu City Musical Instruments Museum, 2011), "Harpsichord Toy Box Pieces" (Japan Acoustic Records, 2014). She has made many recordings as an ensemble player.
