Patrick Milne (Conductor)

Born: England

The English pianist and conductor, Patrick Milne, studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Cambridge University (receiving a double first in music) and Guildhall School of Music & Drama (GSMD), where he received a distinction in his Masters degree (September 2015-June 2017). At Cambridge he formed the Alba Orchestra (2013) and conducted symphonic and operatic works as well as concertos which he directed from the piano. During his studies he won prizes for solo performance, concerto playing and chamber music, which led to performances in venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore and Cadogan halls.

Since graduating he has pursued his interest in opera, studying on the Solti Accademia Répétiteur course in Venice, returning twice to work on their summer programme, and working for a number of opera companies including three seasons at Grange Park Opera (2015-2017), where he was Assistant Conductor for Tosca, Jenůfa, La fanciulla del West and Eugene Onegin. Other operatic engagements have included being Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master for Iolanta and Mavra at GSMD, répétiteur/continuo player for W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte for Opera Lyrica, and working on Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel for Sinfonia d’Amici, La traviata for Opera South and W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro for Instant Opera. He has also worked for Pimlico Opera as Musical Director and pianist on Our House in HMP ISIS, working for two months with young prisoners and a professional cast and crew. He has just completed a season as Repetiteur / Conductor at Scottish Opera as the as Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Emerging Artist (September 2017-June 2018), working on La traviata, Iolanta, The Fiery Angel and Eugene Onegin as well as conducting the world premiere of Sam Bordoli’s Grace Notes and acting as Musical Director and pianist for the Opera Highlights Spring tour. He then was Conductor / Repetiteur at Royal Opera House as Jette Parker Young Artist (September 2018-August 2020). Productions worked on during the 2018-2019 season include The Queen of Spades and La fille du régiment. Then he served as Assistant Conductor / Repetiteur at Garsington Opera (April-July 2021). Since November 2021 he has been Assistant Conductor/ Conductor at Opera North.
