Liv Migdal (Violin)

Born: 1988 - Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

The German violinist, Liv Migdal, was born into a musical family. She is the daughter of the Hamburg piano professor Marian Migdal, and also the younger sister of actress Nadia Migdal. She began her artistic studies at the age of 11 with Christiane Hutcap at the Musikhochschule Rostock (since 1994), where she graduated with distinction. She continued her studies at the Salzburger Mozarteum in Igor Ozim's master class and completed her master program with honors. In addition to Mauricio Fuks, Reinhard Goebel is a musical companion. Since her early concert appearances, she has been awarded a number of international music prizes and scholarships: Scholarship from the Horst Rahe Foundation (2001), Premio Utopia Napoli award in Italy (2005), 1st Prize International Ruggiero Ricci Violin Competition Salzburg, Winner of the 1st International Hindemith Competition in Berlin (2008), GWK Music Prize Münster, Fritz Kreisler Competition Vienna, Mozart Society and others. In 2009 she was accepted into the German National Academic Foundation, in the same year she received a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now”. At the beginning of 2010, she won 1st Prize at the international string competition of the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe. Shortly afterwards, she won the 2010 Music Prize from the Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work and received a special award at the Alois Kottmann Prize in Frankfurt am Main.

Liv Midal played the violin concertos by Tchaikovsky and Felix Mendelssohn in the Laeiszhalle Hamburg in 2008 and 2009. Since then, she has performed as a soloist with the renowned orchestras and conductors in concert halls all over the world, including Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Poland and Israel. Her concert tours have taken her to leading venues throughout the world, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Taipei Concert Hall, Beethovenhalle Bonn, Herkulessaal in Munich, Philharmonic Halls in Essen and Dortmund, Liederhalle in Stuttgart and Konzerthaus Berlin. She has played as a soloist with the Neue Westfälische Philharmonie, Polish Chamber Philharmonic, Eskilstuna Symphony Orchestra, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Folkwang-Kammerorchester, Bochumer Symphonikern, KlassikPhilharmonie Hamburg and others. Four years ago she made her debut at the Berlin Philharmonie, and a year later at the Elbphilharmonie - where she has been subsequently invited back every year. In addition to invitations to renowned festivals like the Schumann-Fest Bonn, Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele and a number of other festivals in Europe and Asia, her concert calendar has recently included tours to Australie, France and Great Britain. In 2017 she initiated the project "Giving ostracized composerts a voice" (Funded by the Ministry of Culture).

All of Liv Migdal's CD recordings of works from Baroque to the present day have received excellent critical acclaim and numerous international awards. These include the highly acclaimed recordings with her pianist partner Marian Migdal, and the Eight Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi and Piazzolla with the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, which was nominated for the International Classical Music Award ( ICMA ). Following the celebrated premiere of a work for violin and orchestra dedicated by the composer to Liv Migdal, and an artist-in-residence season her fourth CD album " Refuge" featuring solo sonatas by J.S. Bach, Paul Ben-Haim and Béla Bartók was released in May 2019. It has already received euphoric praise from international critics.

After another acclaimed concert in the Berlin Philharmonie featuring works for violin and orchestra by Karl Amadeus Hartmann and Paul Ben-Haim, further highlights in 2020-2021 will include appearances at major international festivals such as the Choriner Musiksommer with the Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, the Mosel Music Festival, the Dresden Frauenkirche and tours to the Batic States, Scandinavia and Australia. She currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
