The Spanish violinist, Andoni Mercero, he began his studies of violin and viola in San Sebastián. He continued his studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía de Madrid, the University of Toronto, the Hans Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and the Amsterdam Conservatory. He has won several awards in competitions, including the Premio Nacional Pablo Sarasate, Concurso Nacional de Violín Isidro Gyenes, Julio Cardona International Competition in Portugal, Vittorio Gui Competition in Florence or the Bonporti Baroque Violin Prize in Rovereto (Italy).
Andoni Mercero has directed, from the concert stand, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, la Orquesta Sinfónica de Burgos, Orquesta Barroca de Salamanca and the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla. He is a regular concert-master of the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Al Ayre Español and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi and has been guest concert-master of the Ópera de Oviedo, Accademia Bizantina (Director: Ottavio Dantone), I Barocchisti (Director: Diego Fasolis), Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés, La Capilla Real de Madrid (Director: Óscar Gershensohn), La Cetra Barockorchester Basel (Director: Andrea Marcon) and the Zürcher Kammerorchester. He also regularly collaborates with groups such as Café Zimmermann, Le Concert des Nations (Director: Jordi Savall), Le Parlement de Musique (Director: Martin Gester), Il Complesso Barocco (Director: Alan Curtis) and The Rare Fruits Council.
Andoni Mercero has always been very active in the field of chamber music, both with the violin and the viola, and has been a member of several groups such as the Casals Quartet or Mensa Harmonica. He is currently director of the Musica Boscareccia group, with whom he has recently recorded a CD dedicated to the work of Francesco Corselli. He has performed as a soloist with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta Sinfónica de Burgos, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Camerata Strumentale di Prato (Italy) and Mantua Chamber Orchestra (Italy).
Andoni Mercero also collaborates as a Professor with the JONDE and the Academia de Música Antigua de la Universidad de Salamanca. He is currently a string quartet teacher at Musikene. |
