Donald Meineke (Choral Conductor, Organ, Tenor)

Born: March 1980 - Spring, Texas, USA

The American choral conductor, organist and counter-tenor, Donald R. Meineke, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from Indiana University Bloomington (1998-2002); and his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from The University of Texas at Austin (2009-2012). His teachers have included Larry Smith, Marilyn Kaiser, Elizabeth Wright, Lawrence Brownlee, and James Morrow.

Donald Meineke has served as Director of Music and Organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester, Massachusetts (August 2003-June 2009), where he conducted the Choirs of Trinity Church and was founder and Artistic Director of Vox Triniti; Director of Music and Organist at First English Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas (August 2009-July 2012); Holy Trinity Lutheran in Chicago, Illinois; and served on the Worship and Music staff at the Churchwide Offices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago. He served as Associate Director of Music and Organist (August 2012-Jul 2014) and currently serves Director of Music and Organist - Cantor (since August 2014) at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan, New York, where he oversees the musical life of the Parish, conducts the Holy Trinity Parish Choir, curates an extensive concert series, and is Artistic Director of Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity featuring the renowned Bach Choir of Holy Trinity and The Bach Players.

Donald Meineke maintains an active career as a recitalist, lecturer, conductor, and singer performing with local, national, and international ensembles. In addition to his work at Holy Trinity, he served as the Co-Director of the critically acclaimed Early Music Festival: New York City and was co-founder/Executive Director tenor of Ensemble VIII in Austin, Texas (May 2011-June 2013). He has served as assistant chorus master for Helmuth Rilling, preparing W.A. Mozart’s Mass in C minor in multiple cities throughout Venezuela and J.S. Bach’s B minor Mass (BWV 232) and Passions (BWV 244, BWV 245) throughout Germany and Italy.

A passionate teacher, Donald Meineke has presented master classes and workshops at the regional and national levels on topics ranging from organ improvisation, chant, choral techniques, early music, and historical liturgical practices. He currently lives in New York City.
