The American choral conductor and music teacher, David McNeil Jr. obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in in Music Education from Trinity International University (2008); and his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (August 2013-2015), studying with Betsy Burleigh, Dominick DiOrio, and Walter Huff. During his studies there he directed or assisted with several ensembles. He is currently in the dissertation period of his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the Yale School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music (since 2016; expected graduation in 2022).
David McNeil is a well-rounded and highly experienced conductor and music educator. Prior to teaching at the university level, he spent five years as an elementary and secondary music teacher, working with vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as teaching drama. He joined Colorado Christian University’s faculty as Assistant Professor / Director of Choral Studies (since August 2018). He began his new role in the College of Undergraduate Studies’ School of Music July 1, 2018. He brought extensive experience teaching and conducting at the primary, secondary, and collegiate levels. Most recently he served in assistant director and conductor roles for various glee clubs and ensembles at Yale’s School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music. He is also Artistic Director at Vittoria Ensemble in Denver, Colorado (since August 2019).
David McNeil’s interests include Baroque music, opera, the role of choral music in the church, literature, fishing, and woodworking. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Chelsey, and their three sons, Conrad, Arthur, and Henry. He currently lives in Lakewood, Colorado. |
