The English pianist, Warren Mailley-Smith, studied with some of the world’s leading pedagogues, including Peter Feuchtwanger, Ronald Smith and John Barstow at the Royal College Of Music in London. He won several prizes in competitions, notable among them the Countess of Munster Award and the French Piano Music Prize. He also tudied privately with Peter Feuchtwanger and Ronald Smith.
Successful appearances at Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall enhanced Warren Mailley-Smith's reputation as a solo recitalist, and concerto debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of L.v. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," was an early high point in his career. He has performed primarily in the UK, Europe, and the USA, specializing in the major concertos of the Classical and Romantic eras. He has also performed in recital with soprano Susan Parkes and cellist Rowena Calvert. His career has taken him all over the world, with solo performances in Australia, Europe and most recently solo tours in China and the USA. He is a popular soloist on the UK concert scene and performs regularly in music societies, festivals, schools and concert halls throughout the uk and abroad and as guest artist on several of the world’s most famous cruise liners. He has performed for the British Royal Family on numerous occasions. He has 30 piano concertos in his repertoire.
In 2016 Warren Mailley-Smith became the first British pianist to perform Frédéric Chopin's complete works for solo piano from memory in a series of 11 recitals at St John’s Smith Square. Hailed by the critics as an “epic achievement”, Mailley-Smith will repeat the series across the UK in coming seasons. An passionate chamber musician, he is Artistic Director of the Piccadilly Chamber Music Series and is founder and Artistic Director of the Piccadilly Sinfonia.
One of the busiest concert pianists of his generation, Warren Mailley-Smith will give over 100 solo performances in 2021-2022. During the Coronavirus Pandemic he performed over 80 online solo concerts, with over 120 works to over 300,000 people worldwide has been at the forefront of developing online streaming as a means for musicians to continue performing. Warren Mailley-Smith's growing discography has made an impact on critics, broadcasters and the public alike. His recordings have been featured by Classic FM as CD of the Week and his recordings are featured regularly on Classic FM and the BBC. He is currently recording the complete works of F. Chopin over a 4-year period for a 12-disc set for Sleeveless Records.
Warren Mailley-Smith is now in increasing demand himself as teacher in both master-classes and private lessons. He teaches at Royal College of Music Junior Departments and tutors on a number of residential courses, including Finchcocks, Pro Corda, Piano Week and Pianissimi, in addition to giving master-classes and adjudications throughout the UK and further afield. |
