Iván López Reynoso (Conductor, Counter-tenor)

Born: April 17, 1990 - Guanajuato, Mexico

The Mexican conductor, pianist, violinist and counter-tenor, Iván Lopez-Reynoso, studied violin under Gellya Dubrova, piano under maestro Alexander Pashkov, choir conducting under maestro Jorge Medina and he graduated Summa Cum Laude in orchestra conducting under maestro Gonzalo Romeu. He has since taken part in numerous master-classes among which Alberto Zedda, Jean Paul Penin, Jan Latham-Koenig or Avi Ostrowsky. As an additional skill, he sings as counter-tenor. He is proficient in English, German and Italian.

López-Reynoso shares the privilege of being the youngest conductor to appear at Bellas Artes Theater in Mexico with maestro Eduardo Mata. He possesses a musicianship and a solid temperament proved in numerous leading ensembles in his native Mexico and around the globe, including Spain, Germany, Peru, Oman and Italy. His collaborations extend to some of the most relevant artists such as Brigitte Fassbaender, Ildar Abdrazakov, Javier Camarena, Ramón Vargas, Irina Lungu, John Osborn, Alessandro Corbelli, Celso Albelo, Franz Hawlata, Paolo Bordogna, Simón Orfila, Sabina Puértolas, Michael Barenboim, Yulianna Avdeeva, Conrad Tao, Oxana Yablonskaya, Gabriela Montero, Alex Klein or Ryu Goto.

Iván López Reynoso has conducted the Oviedo Filarmonía, Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini, Navarra Symphony Orchestra, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Staatsorchester Braunschweig, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, Orchestra and Choir of Mexico's Bellas Artes Palace, Mexico State Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa, Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City, Symphony Orchestra of Mineria, Philharmonic Orchestra of National University OFUNAM, Jalisco Philharmonic, as well as the Guanajuato University Symphony Orchestra, Carlos Chávez Orchestra, or National University Youth Orchestra Eduardo Mata.

A gifted opera conductor, Iván López Reynoso made his opera debut in 2010 at the age of 20 with W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. This was only the first of a list of more than 30 operas: W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, La clemenza di Tito, Don Giovanni; G. Verdi's Aida, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Don Carlo; G. Rossini's Il turco in Italia, La scala di seta, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La cenerentola, Le comte Ory (debut in Mexico), Il viaggio a Reims (debut in Mexico); G. Puccini's Madama Butterfly, La bohème, Tosca; Donizetti's L’elisir d’amore, La fille du régiment, Viva la mamma (debut in Mexico); V. Bellini's I puritani; Georges Bizet's Carmen; J. Massenet's Werther; R. Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer; Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel. Dmitri Shostakovich's Moscow, Cheryomushki; F. Lehár: Die lustige Witwe; X. Montsalvatge: El gato con botas.

Iván López Reynoso was selected as the conductor for the 2014 Rossini Opera Festival Accademia, conducting Il viaggio a Reims as part of the festival program and working closely to great Rossini specialist, maestro Alberto Zedda. Previous positions include Interim Artistic Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes, Erster Kapellmeister of the Staatstheater Braunschweig and Associate Conductor of the Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM. In December 2020, he was appointed as the next Artistic Director of the Orquesta del Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico, and since 2018 he works as Principal Guest Conductor of the Oviedo Filarmonía.
