Romina Lischka (Viola da gamba)

Born: 1982 - Vienna, Austria.

The Austrian viola da gamba player, Romina Lischka, began her musical studies with the guitar at the age of 7, turning to the viol 6 years later. She continued studying the two instruments in various music academies in Vienna, pursuing her guitar studies with Walter Würdinger at the Universität für Musik Wien from 1999 until 2002. Her interest in early music brought her to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Switzerland, where she studied viola da gamba with Paolo Pandolfo. She received her soloist diploma with distinction in 2006. She then continued her studies with Philippe Pierlot at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, completing her Masters degree with distinction in 2008. In addition, she participated in master-classes with Wieland Kuijken, Jordi Savall and Sophie Watillon, as well as the summer academy in Ambronay, France, under the direction of Christophe Rousset.

Since 2008, Romina Lischka has developed her activities as a concert artist, playing with such ensembles as Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe), Ricercar Consort (Director: Philippe Pierlot), Les Flamboyants (Director: Michael Form), Le Jardin Secret, Queens Consort, B'Rock, Capilla Flamenca, the Vlaamse Opera, Zefiro Torna, Roza Enflorese… Her concert activities have brought her to prestigious concert halls and festivals throughout Europe, Russia, Asia, North and South America, including the festivals of Midi Minimes, Early Music Festival York, BOZAR, AMUZ, de Dag van de Oude Muziek, Brighton Early Music Festival, Festival de la Roque-d’Anthéron, Züricher Tonhalle, Kongress Innsbruck, Festival de Labeaume, Teatro Maliban, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Lincoln Center New York, Festival d‘Aix en Provence, Folle Journée in Nantes and Tokyo.

In 2012, Romina Lischka performed the premier of George Benjamin's opera Written on Skin at the festival in Aix-en-Provence and has travelled with this production to the Opéra Comique in Paris and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. She has also toured with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra throughout Europa (Teatro Real Madrid, Barbican London, etc.) and with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in China (Beijing Music Festival, etc.). In the 2012-2013 concert season, she was chosen as the early music "ECHO Rising Star" by the BOZAR (Brussels) and Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), which resulted in solo performances at various European concert venues.

Romina Lischka has recorded for the labels Ricercar, Flora, Coro, Christophorus, Musica Ficta, Fuga Libera and Paraty. Her debut CD Pièces de viole de Sietur de Machy received the top 5 star rating by Diapason. The CD "En Suite - Marin Marais & Sainte Colombe" was awarded the Klara prize for “best classical CD of 2015.”

Romina Lischka's passion for the classical music of North India of the Dhrupad style brought her to study Indian singing in India with Ustad Fariduddin Dagar in Delhi and Uday Bhawalkar in Pune, and at the World Music department at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where she received her Bachelors degree of vocal studies in 2010.

In November 2011, Romina Lischka presented her first “Manufacture project” at De Bijloke in Gent. In 2012 she brought all of these aspects of her musical life together when she formed her Hathor Consort, which is dedicated to the exploration not only for the performance the consort repertoire from the Renaissance to the Baroque, but also modern works and world music. For the season 2019-2020 she was Portrayed Artist of Bozar. She has received the KLARA Award - Soloist of the Year 2018 and the Ulitmas award for music from the Flemish government in 2020.
