Sinhaeng Lee (Conductor)

Born: Incheon, Korea

The Korean-born conductor, Sinhaeng Lee, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Church Music (Choral Conducting) from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea (2009-2015), where he studied under Dr. Hae Ock Kim; his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College (2016-2018) under the guidance of Dr. Joe Miller and Dr. Amanda Quist; and his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Music with a cognate in Performance Practice from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2019-2022), where he studied under the tutelage of Dr. Andrew Megill and Dr. Charlotte Mattax Moersch.

Sinhaeng Lee is a highly skilled and versatile musician with a passion for conducting, teaching, singing, and playing keyboard instruments. He is the founder and artistic director of Vox Amicis, a professional ensemble in Seoul, South Korea, and currently serves as Director of Choral Programs and Assistant Professor of Music at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York (since July 2022). He has conducted a diverse range of choirs, from youth choruses to professional ensembles. He has conducted the University Chorus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was recognized on the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent By Their Students in 2021.

Sinhaeng Lee is also an accomplished bass-baritone with a wealth of performance experience. He has sung with the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir of the Philadelphia Orchestra and served as a Vocal Fellow of the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina. He was also a member of the renowned Westminster Choir and Westminster Kantorei. As a staff accompanist at Westminster Choir College, he coached student singers and accompanied the Westminster Chapel Choir. His dedication to his craft has been recognized through numerous opportunities to participate in conducting master-classes in the USA, Austria, and Germany. He has been awarded a fellowship at the 2019 National Collegiate Choral Organization and the 2019 Chorus America Conducting Academy. He has also had the privilege of serving as a graduate assistant conductor of the Westminster Symphonic Choir of Westminster Choir College (September 2016-May 2018). He was an assistant conductor of the chorus at the Carmel Bach Festival 2022 season.

Sinhaeng Lee's passion for music has led him to continually develop his talents across various disciplines, such as conducting, education, and performance. He believes that his multifaceted abilities have allowed him to serve as a useful member of various ensembles, and he is constantly seeking to improve himself as a musician and as an educator.
