Christopher Larsen (Choral Conductor)

Born: July 1976 - Atlantic, Iowa, USA

The American choral conductor, Christopher Larsen, obtained his Bachelor of Music Education from Wartburg College (1994-1998) under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Torkelson; his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona (2001-2003) under the mentorship of Dr. Bruce Chamberlain; and his Doctor of Music Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015 under the supervision of Dr. James Morrow, with research towards aleatory choral pieces and their rehearsal and performance.

As a chorister and a tenor soloist, Christopher Larsen has performed with Conspirare with Dr. Craig Hella Johnson, Texas Choral Consort with Brent Baldwin, Ars Longa with Dr. Steven Brennfleck, Austin Baroque Orchestra with Billy Traylor, Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati with Dr. Donald Nally, and the Opera Colorado Chorus with John Baril.

Christopher Larsen has been Assistant Conductor of The University of Arizona Kantorei (2001); Assistant Conductor of The University of Arizona Honor Choir (2002); Assistant Conductor of The University of Arizona University Singers (2002); Assistant Conductor of The University of Arizona Symphonic Choir (2002-2003); Conductor of The University of Texas Campus Opera Society (2004-2005); Conductor of The University of Texas Men’s Chorus (2012-2014); Graduate Teaching Assistant of University of Texas Chamber Singers (2014-2015). His award-winning concert ensembles and show choirs have toured domestically and internationally.

Christopher Larsen spent nine years as the head of music programs in public and private high schools in Iowa, Minnesota and Ohio. He has been Vocal Music Teacher at South Tama High School in Tama, Iowa (1998-1999); Iowa Ambassadors of Music in Iowa City, Iowa (2000); Mount Pleasant Community High School in Mount Pleasant, Iowa (1999-2001); Apollo High School in Saint Cloud, Minnesota (2003-2004); Mount Pleasant Community High School in Mount Pleasant, Iowa (2005–2007); Ursuline Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio (August 2009-June 2012); Teaching Assistant of Choral Ensembles at The University of Texas at Austin (August 2012-May 2015). Currently he is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Ohio Northern University (since August 2016). He is Member of the American Choral Director's Association and Ohio Music Education Association. He currently resides in Dublin, Ohio, with his wife Andrea, son Julian, and daughter Malaya.
