Ruud Huijbregts (Choral Conductor, Organ, Harpsichord)

Born: 1961 - Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands

The Dutch choral conductor, organist, harpsichordist and music teacher, Ruud Huijbregts, studied organ at the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg with Hub Houët and Bram Beekman, harpsichord with Gerard Dekker and choral conducting with Jan Boogaarts and Cees Rotteveel. He also took various courses with, among others, Luigi Tagliavini, Albert de Klerk and Kamiel d'Hooghe (organ) and Joop van Zon (orchestra conducting).

Ruud Huijbregts is active in various areas: as an organist, harpsichordist/continuo player and as a choir conductor; he has given many concerts at home and abroad, and has made various radio and television and CD recordings. In 2006 a CD was released with the complete works of Herman Hollanders, who was, among other things, organist of the Eindhoven Sint Cathrien in the early 17th century. He has given organ concerts at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, Utrechtse Domkerk, Kathedrale Basiliek St. Bavo in Haarlem and Sint Jan in 's Hertogenbosch; together with the Brabants Orkest at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and on the concert organ at the Muziekgebouw 'Frits Philips' in Eindhoven.

In 1981 Ruud Huijbregts founded the Eindhovens Vocaal Ensemble, now called Collegium Vocale Eindhoven. With this choir he performed many major choral works, including J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Magnificat in D major BWV 243 and Mass in B minor BWV 232; Monteverdi's Mariavespers; W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Mass in C minor and all of Haydn's major masses. In addition, many works by contemporary composers, including Toebosch, Maessen, Manneke, Zoltán Kodály, Benjamin Britten and Arvo Pärt. In November 2012, Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem was performed in the new arrangement for small ensemble by Joachim Linckelmann. From 1995 to 2019, Ruud Huijbregts was conductor of the Studentenkoor Vokollage of the Eindhovens Studenten Muziekgezelschap "Quadrivium".

Ruud Huijbregts is co-initiator and artistic director of Collegium Musicum Eindhoven. The Collegium Vocale en Collegium Instrumentale (formerly Brabants Muzyk Collegie) participate in the concert series 'Muziek in de Cathrien', weekly concerts on Saturday afternoons in the Eindhovense Stadskerk St.Cathrien.

Since 2015, Ruud Huijbregts has been a principal subject teacher of organ and teacher of music history and performance practice at AMPA (of Fontys Conservatorium) in Tilburg. He is also a teacher of organ and harpsichord at CKE in Eindhoven. He is also conductor/organist at the Eindhovense Stadskerk St. Cathrien. In 2011 he was appointed city organist of Eindhoven.
