The Spanish conductor, baritone, counter-tenor and flautist, Jorge Enrique García Ortega, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Transverse Flute at the CSM “Rafael Orozco” in Córdoba and a postgraduate degree with François Veilhan in Paris and a Bachelor of Music degree in Singing from Trinity College of London after studies with Carole Bajac, Howard Crook, David Mason and Carlos Mena. He is currently a singing disciple of the latter and of Richard Levitt in Basel (Switzerland). Since 2009 he studies conducting with Vasco Negreiros and Martin Schmidt. He has received master-classes in historical interpretation from Cristina Miatello and Wilbert Hazelzet.
Jorge Enrique García has been or is a member and collaborator of the Harkov Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orchestre “Marcel Dupré” de París, “Bozes de Al Ayre Español”, La Hispanoflamenca, Coro Barroco de Andalucía, Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe) and La Capella Reial de Catalunya (Director: Jordi Savall) and has been placed under the batons of conductors such as Diego Fasolis, Christian Gouinguenée, Eduardo López Banzo, Lluís Villamajó, Walter Reiter, Bart Vandewege, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Philippe Herreweghe and Jordi Savall. This has allowed him to perform internationally as a soloist and / or with groups in places such as De Doelen (Rotterdam), Muziekcentrum De Bijloke (Ghent), Alice Tully Hall (New York), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Koningin Elisabethzaal (Antwerp), Kölner Philarmonie (Cologne), Rosengarten (Manheim), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Philarmonie Essen (Essen), DeSingel (Antwerp), Eurogress (Aachen), Muziekcentrum Frits Philips (Eindhoven), Théâtre des Champs-Elyseés (Paris), Palais des Beaux-Arts / Bozar (Brussels), Concertgebou (Bruges) and Konzerthaus (Vienna).
Jorge Enrique García is director of the Conjunto Vocal Virelay - Capilla de Música de la Catedral de Cádiz since its foundation in 2001. He is the founder, director and counter-tenor of Sparus Aurata. He has also directed the Orquesta Barroco Archivo 415 (Seville), Sociedad Musical de Sevilla and Coro Barroco de Andalucía.
In the pedagogical area he has been Professor of Historical Singing in the Muestra de Música Antigua “Castillo de Aracena”; He is a Professor of Vocal Technique and Choral Singing regularly invited by the Universidad de Córdoba and the Coro Averroes and by the Conservatorio Profesional “Paco de Lucía” de Algeciras. He has taught Choir Specialty classes at the Conservatorios “Paco de Lucía” (Algeciras), “Muñoz Molleda” (La Línea de la Concepción) and the Conservatorio Profesional de El Ejido.
Currently he combines his work as a professional singer at the international level with that of Professor of Singing. With the Vocal Ensemble "Virelay" - Capilla de Música de la Catedral de Cádiz, he has participated as director, baritone and solo counter-tenor and member of Schola Gregoriana in the entire record collection " Capilla de Música de la Catedral de Cádiz" which currently consists of 4 volumes .He has also participated with the Collegium Vocale Gent in the recording of his album of L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Edward Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius and a live recording of J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) for German television. |
