Rachel Farrar (Soprano)

Born: Lexington, Kentucky, USA

The American soprano, Rachel Farrar, was born and raised in in a home full of music. The daughter of accomplished instrumentalists, she learned to sing and play the violin at a very early age. She attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts where she fell in love with orchestra, opera and theatre. In the Girls' Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Lexington, she was brought up in the rich Anglican choral tradition of the Episcopal Church. She earned her Bachelor's of Music Performance in Voice from the University of Kentucky in 2008.

After graduating, Rachel Farrar moved in 2008 to New York City to pursue a performance career. In a matter of weeks, she was hired as a Staff Soprano in the all-professional choir at Saint Bartholomew's Church NYC. In early 2009, she and her Saint Bart's colleagues were cast to sing In Paradisum from Gabriel Fauré's Requiem in the film Salt, starring Angelina Jolie and directed by Phillip Noyce. This began her exhilarating career in film and television.

Over the years, Rachel Farrar has appeared in some small roles in big projects, both singing and acting. Her credits include The Looming Tower (2017), Gossip Girl, (2009), Shame (2011), The Knick (2015) and an upcoming episode of HBO's Crashing. Primarily however, she is a highly sought after stand-in and body double. She has had the pleasure of working under lauded cinematographers Fred Elmes and John Schwartzman. Some of the same things that drew her to choirs and orchestras now draw her to film sets. She relishes being a piece of a complex whole, working with others to create something bigger and better than anyone could create alone. A die-hard feminist and proud member of SAG-AFTRA, she is passionate about the fair treatment of women on film sets and works to bring about that equity in all she does.

Rachel Farrar is in the midst of her tenth season with Saint Bartholomew's Choir, where she can be heard singing every Sunday and at various other services and concerts throughout the year. She lives in Harlem with her husband Graham, an architect, and their sweet dog Sophie.
