Capella Juventa of Münster is the mixed choir of the Institute of MusicEducation at the University of Münster in Westphalia. It was reorganized in 1994 and since that date has been known as the Capella Juventa.
Under its director Ulrich Grosser the choir developed into an ensem-ble distinguished by balanced vocal dimensions and operating on a high artistic level within the shortest time. Numerous concert events inside and outside Germany attest to this upward development since its new founding in the winter term 1994-1995. For a number of years the choir has worked on an artistic and cultural-political basis together with the Jelenia Gora Philharmonic in Lower Silesia (Hirschberg, Poland), Wroclaw Music Academy (Breslau), and Chopin Academy in Warsaw.
From 1999 to 2001 Ulrich Grosser was the first German principal conductor of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic. The performances of the Capella under its director Grosser with outstanding orchestras and internationally renowned soloists have repeatedly been acclaimed for their intensive interpretation of the texts and total identification with the particular work. Since 2002 the ensemble has collaborated with the Western German Soloists and with the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra. In May of that year it presented an outstanding performance of L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Productions in December 2002, included the Magnificat of Antonio Vivaldi and the Christmas oratorio of Camille Saint-Saëns. During the summer of 2003 its rendering of the Stabat mater of Antonín Dvorák in collaboration with the Salzburg Cathedral Choir formed part of the preliminary program of the Salzburg Festival. Further a cappella programs were presented in 2003 together with the choirs of the universities of Riga and Vilnius. |
