Gilda Buttà (Piano)

Born: July 29, 1959 - Patti, province of Messina, Sicily, Italy

The Italian pianist, Gilda Buttà, began her studies at the age of 6 with her father (a violinist). she studied music at the Conservatorio Musica Verdi Milano, graduating with the highest honors at the age of 16 under the guidance of Carlo Vidusso. In the same years she made her debut as soloist with the Orchestra della RAI in Milan, winning shortly thereafter national and international competitions, including the "Premio Liszt" in Livorno in 1976. Then followed the teachings of Lucia Passaglia, Guido Agosti and Rodolfo Caporali.

The concert career has taken Gilda Buttà to play for the most important institutions, both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles throughout Europe, USA, South America, Japan, Korea, China, Russia and Israel. Dedicated to the most diverse styles, from contemporary music through experimentation and contamination, has developed a vast repertoire. Her vast repertoire for piano and orchestra, ranging from W.A. Mozart to L.v. Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Gershwin, Sergei Rachmaninov, Dmitri Shostakovich, up to Nyman, performed for the IUC in Rome, conducted by the composer himself.

Gilda Buttà was briefly married to French jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani. (his second wife), and is currently the wife of cellist Luca Pincini, with whom she plays in a duo. With her husband in life she has a special deal of understanding, based on the much curiosity as the rigor of musical choices, which has led them to perform the whole of the works of L.v. Beethoven, J. Brahms, Frédéric Chopin, scores of all the major composers of the classical repertoire, often devoted to compositions by musicians of today, with excellent collaborations. She currently lives in Rome, Italy.

Gilda Buttà has taught at the Conservatories of Florence and Pescara, and currently holds the chair of piano at the Frosinone Conservatory.

Gilda Buttà has recorded several film soundtracks, most notably written by Academy Award-winning composer Ennio Morricone for Giuseppe Tornatore’s film The Legend of 1900. She has recorded for BMG, CAM, Sony Music, MEG Italy, Warner, Virgin Records, Victor, RCA Italiana, EMI. For "Pesi&Misure", with Luca Pincini, she recorded "Two Skies", with music by S. Rachmaninov, Gershwin, Ferrio. With Luca Pincini she has also recorded 3 albums for U07 Records: "Composers", "Absolutely Ennio Morricone" and "Playing George Gershwin".
