Aleksandra Bryła (Violin)

Born: 1984 - Płock, Poland

The Polish violinist, Aleksandra Bryła, graduated with honours in 2005 from the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań in the violin class of Professor J. Kaliszewska and Professor M. Baranowski. As a member of the Meccore String Quartet, she studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in the class of the “Camerata” string quartet, at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels in the class of the Artemis Quartett. As a soloist, she has achieved major success at the National Zdzisław Jahnke Violin Competition in Poznań, International Violin Competition “Toruń 2007 Karol Szymanowski in memoriam,” Michael Hill International Competition in New Zealand, International Violin Competition Valsesia-Musica in Varallo in Italy and International Violin Competition in Avignon in France. Along with the Meccore Quartet, she has won awards at prominent chamber competitions, including the Wigmore Hall Competition in London and Premio Paolo Borciani in Reggio Emilia.

Aleksandra Bryła is a versatile violinist with rich artistic achievements. She performs as a soloist and chamber musician, cooperating with prominent figures of the international music scene. She is a laureate of several violin and chamber music competitions around the world. From 2007, she cocreates the Meccore String Quartet, with which she carries out dynamic international concert activity.

Aleksandra Bryła regularly has the honour of appearing in the top concert halls of Europe: the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Bozar in Brussels, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the National Forum of Music in Wrocław. She has had the honour to work with such outstanding artists as: V. Erben, J. Maksymiuk, E. Kupiec, A. Duczmal, M. Szwajger-Kułakowska, M. Drewnowski, O. Balan, S. Chrzanowski, A. Bauer, E. Runge, and F. Weigle. In 2011, Together with the Meccore String Quartet she performed the Austrian premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s String Quartet No. 3 in the Musikverein in Vienna in the presence of the composer. She has participated in many prestigious festivals, among others: the Rheingau Music Festival, Paolo Borciani Festival, Warsaw Autumn, Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, Music on the Peaks, and Heidelberger Frühling. She cooperates with the chamber vocal ensemble Cappella Viridimontana, specialising in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music.

Aleksandra Bryła carries out didactic and scientific activity in the field of violin interpretation. In 2015 she received the title of Doctor of Arts. She is author of the publication Rhetoric in Selected Sonatas for Harpsichord and Violin by J.S. Bach published by the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. She is Assistant Professor at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, where she teaches courses in Violin and Chamber music.

Aleksandra Bryła has made numerous recordings for Bayerischer Rundfunk, Rai 3, NDR, Radio Poznań, and TVP Kultura. In 2011, she was nominated for the “Guarantees of Culture” award and for the “Polityka Passport” award in the category of classical music, among others for “boldly breaking conventions and stereotypes.” She is an initiator and co-organiser of the International Chamber Music Festival “Q’arto Mondi”.
