Herbert Bolterauer (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: 1964 - Steyr, Austria

The Austrian organist, composer and choral conductor, Herbert Bolterauer, studied church music at the Kunstuniversität Graz (organ with Ernst Triebel). In 1989 he obtained diploma with distinction and teaching qualification. From 1989 to 1993 he studied organ with Herbert Tachezi at the Vienna Musikhochschule. In 1990 he received Award of the Federal Ministry of Science and Research. He attended master-classes with Michael Schneider and Michael Radulescu.

Since 1987 Herbert Bolterauer has been organist and chorus master at the Graz Mariahilferkirche, founder and director of the Mariahilfer "Abendmusiken". Teaching at the Grazer Kirchenmusikkonservatorium. Since 1992 he is also director of the Grazer Franziskuskantorei. In 1997 he founded the Vokalensemble Tonus. He paryticipated in production with the Göttinger Sinfonieorchester under Christian Simonis in Göttingen and Linz. He has given concerts in France, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Belgium and Austria. He currently lives in Osterreicher, Steiermark, Austria.

1997: premiere of the Apocalypse by Jean Françaix in Göttingen
2001: world premiere of the Mass commemorating the rector Josef Fink von Maximilian Hendler
2003: Participation in the world premiere of Und ich sah... by Thomas Daniel Schlee at the Kirche Mariahilf in Graz
2008: Austrian premiere of the Missa Deo gratias by Jean-Pierre Leguay with the Vokalensemble Tonus at the Kirche Mariahilf in Graz

2013: Quis est Deus - An Inter-Religious Cantata: Commissioned work premiered at the time of an interfaith meeting. A Latin Trinity hymn of the theologian Anton Kolb was combined with texts from various world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Islam) and set to music by Herbert Bolterauer to a cantata with soprano and bass solo, string trio, three recorders, two trombones, organ and choir.
