Michal Bitan (Soprano)

Born: February 9, ____ - Jerusalem, Israel

The Israeli-born lyric soprano, Michal Bitan, was launched on to the stage at the early age of 6 when she was invited to sing in the Junior Ankor Choir to which she toured extensively through Europe and the Middle East. She obtained her her Bachelor of Music degree in classical voice from the Music Academy of Jerusalem (2002-2007). In 2002 she was recognised as an outstanding artist by the Israeli government and won several prestigious scholarships (2004, 2006). She contuned her studies in Europe and obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Early Music Singing from the Royal Conservatory for Music and Dance in The Hague, the Netherlands (2007-2011); and her Master of Arts degree in Early Music Singing from the same insitute under the tutelage of Michael Chance, Peter Kooy, Jill Feldman and Rita Dams (2011-2013).

The Israel soprano, Michal Bitan, made her debut with the New Israeli Opera as 1st Child of in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Since then she has come to specialize in the works of the late French, Italian and German 18th century masters, as well as historical acting. Her musical flexibility is informed by a kaleidoscope of interests. From rhetoric and historical theater, through filming, to the construction of historical garments, these art forms instruct her decision making to form a miniature theater experience in each performance. She has sung the roles of Dorinda in George Frideric Handel's Orlando at Theater Aachen, Königin der Nacht in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with the Lüneburger Symphoniker, Armide by Lully, Queen Orasia in Georg Philipp Telemann's Orpheus, Vespetta in G.P. Telemann's Pimpinone and Mrs. Ford in Salieri's Falstaff at the Royal theater The Hague.

Michal Bitan collaborates as a singer- actress with various ensembles and orchestras, such as Musica Poëtica (since January 2016), with whom she portrayed the roles of Ariadne in G. Benda's Ariadne auf Naxos and Portia in Shakespeare's The merchant of Venice. She is the artistic director of the ensemble A Dialogue on a Kiss, since 2010. She currently lives in The Hague, the Netherland.
