Bernhard Billeter (Organ, Piano)

Born: July 26, 1936 - Zürich, Switzerland

The Swiss pianist, organist and musicologist, Bernhard Billeter, studiied piano, organ and musicology in Zürich, Vienna and Basel.

After his studies, Bernhard Billeter taught piano at the Lucerne Conservatory from 1969 to 1981; from 1975 at the former Consortium of Zürich Conservatory and Music Academy Zürich, now Zürich University of the Arts, Faculty of Music, up to his resignation on July 1, 2001 organ, fortepiano, clavichord and performance practice. He is also a member of Ricercare-Ensemble Für Alte Musik, Zürich.

From 1984 to 1997, Bernhard Billeter was editor-in-chief of the Schweizerische Musikpädagogischen Blätter, then a member of the editorial commission of the Schweizer Musikzeitung until 2010. He was also an organist at various churches and lecturer at the University of Zürich. In the Swiss Music Education Association (Schweizerischen Musikpädagogischen Verband) he was a member of the central board responsible for the further development of the vocational training offered by this association from 1994 to 2005.

In addition to his work as a pianist and organist, as a lecturer and editor, Bernhard Billeter published numerous essays on Frank Martin, Paul Hindemith, Olivier Messiaen and Norbert Moret, glosses and reviews that make an important contribution to music theory and musical practice.
