François Bataille (Choral Conductor)

Born: France

The French choral conductor, François Bataille, studied music education and musicology at Université Paris-Sorbonne (1979-1984); solfège and musical analysis at Conservatoires Nationaux de Région Rueil-Malmaison and Versailles (1979-1984); choir direction at Formation Philippe Caillard (1983-1985). Having completed his musical studies, he obtained a prize in music theory and analysis as well as his diploma of end of studies in cello, which are completed by a D.E.M in lyrical singing in baritone, a diploma in choir direction awarded by Philippe Caillard, as well as the CAPES in musicology and choral singing in 1984.

For more than thirty years, François Bataille has divided his career between the musical education of young people (since September 2020 at Collège Charles Lebrun in Montmorency), singing and choir direction. Among other things, he participated in lyrical and symphonic productions at the festivals of Saint-Céré, Fréjus, as well as that of Baalbeck (Lebanon) with the Choeur de l’Opéra de Paris in 2003.

From 1981 to 2001, François Bataille created and directed the Ensemble Vocal Harmony, and since 1997 the Chœur Symphonique du Laboratoire Sanofi, with which he conducts works from the great repertoire (Vêpres solemnelles du Confessor and Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Gloria and Magnificat by Antonio Vivaldi, Nelson Messe and Paukenmesse by Haydn, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Psalm 42 by Felix Mendelssohn, Messa di Gloria by Puccini, Requiem by Gabriel Fauré…)

In 2004, François Bataille became musical director of the Solistes de Normandie where he toured the region, notably with the Stabat Mater de Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. In 2006, he founded the Ensemble Vocal Opus 21, which has since performed regularly in a variety of repertoires ranging from baroque to contemporary.

François Bataille's activities include also various one-off performances as choir-master or baritone soloist, mainly in the field of operetta or oratorio: Barbe-Bleue and La Belle Hélène by Offenbach, Petite Messe solennelle by Rossini, or the show “Passions, Agapes and vocalizations”.
