Academia de Música Antigua de Zacatecas (Early Mausic Ensemble)

Founded: 2018 - Zacatecas, Mexico

Since its founding in 2018, the Academia de Música Antigua de Zacatecas (= AMAZ; English: Academy of Ancient Music of Zacatecas) is an ensemble that brings together musicians of diverse profiles who converge on the same ambition: to produce exciting concerts of rigorous quality, whose themes mainly address the imaginative and sagacious repertoire. from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Under the artistic direction of teachers José Luis Herrera on the cello and Abderrahmán Anzaldúa on the violin, the ensemble has managed to establish itself in just 5 years of experience as one of the most important exponents of Baroque music in the country, participating in important important festivals and forums of the national music scene.

AMAZ has become not only a prestigious group, but also a philosophy of interpretation that its founders have been building together with the members of the ensemble and that today is recognizable, requested and acclaimed by audiences in the Mexican music scene.

Within their intense artistic activity, they have collaborated with artists of international stature such as the pianist Alexander Pashkov, the singers Cynthia Sánchez and Angélica Monje Torrez, the violinists Francisco Ladrón de Guevara, Román Pavón and Diego Velazco, and the maestro Horacio Franco, icon of Baroque music in Mexico and the world. Likewise, they have shared the stage with important groups such as the Coro del Teatro del Bicentenario (León, Guanajuato) under the direction of maestro Jaime Castro; and the Orquesta Filarmónica del Tzintzuni (Morelia, Michoacán) under the baton of maestro Juan Vázquez.

Adjacent to the musical scene, the AMAZ ensemble adopts a role of dissemination and promotion of musicological research through classes, courses and workshops taught in various institutions and through different platforms, thus promoting interest in innovation in music. interpretation from a historically informed repertoire.
