Otto Nathanael Nicolai (Deacon, Pastor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: April 5, 1710 - Kösseln, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
Died: June 1778 - Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Otto Nathanael Nicolai was born to Samuel Nicolai (Pastor in Kösseln). He studied at Stadtschule in Delitzsch (c1719); enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 8, 1723; studied there from 1723 to 1729, since April 24, 1723 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig from 1729. He obtained his Baccalaureus degree in 1733, and his Magister degree in 1734. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he became Deacon in Naumburg (1739), Deacon (1742) and Pastor (1758) in Magdeburg.
