Johann Gottfried Neicke (Pastor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: July 16, 1715 - Grimma, Saxony, Germany
Died: December 25, 1797

Johann Gottfried Neicke [Neucke] was born to Gottfried Neicke (cooper in Grimma). He studied at the Stadtschule in Grimma; enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 9, 1729; studied there from 1729 to 1738; and at Universität Leipzig from 1738 to 1746, obtaining his Baccalaureus degree in 1742 and his Magister degree in 1743. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “not yet ready to be used in the 1st choir (figural music)”. After his studies, he worked as Pastor in Silbitz near Eisenberg since 1746.
