August Christoph Langwagen (Pastor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: October 2, 1731 - Dommitzsch, Saxony, Germany
Died: March 23, 1783 - Pegau, near Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

August Christoph Langwagen was born the son of Christoph Langwagen (Rector in Dommitzsch). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 11, 1744; studied there from 1744 to 1753; at Universität Leipzig from 1753; and at Universität Wittenberg from 1758. As a Thomaner he was in Choir IV (in St. Peter's Church) from May 17, 1744 (Pentecost) to June 6, 1745 (Pentecost). Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as home tutor in Zeitz; Pastor in Salsitz from 1763; Archdeacon in Pegau from 1771.
