Johann Tobias Dietze (Bach's Pupil)

Born: August 6, 1713 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
Died: May 7, 1763 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

Johann Tobias Dietze [Diez, Tietze] was born to Johann Christoph Dietze (registrar). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 3, 1729 and studied there from 1729 to 1735; since July 18, 1727 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig in 1735. He applied unsuccessfully as scorer at Ranstädter Tor in 1748, and worked as language teacher in Leipzig. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach (1729): “not demonstrating abilities in music”; J.S. Bach (1730) “incompetent, not at all musical”.
