Furio Zanasi (Baritone)

Born: Rome, Italy

The Italian baritone, Furio Zanasi, began his musical activities in Early Music, with a repertoire spanning from the madrigal to cantatas, from oratorio to Baroque opera.

Furio Zanasi has collaborated with many ensembles and participated in the most prestigious festivals devoted to the Early Music, in Italy (Settembre Musica Torino, Festival Roma Europa, S. Maurizio in Milano, Autunno Musicale of Como, Perugia, Cremona, Festival del Clavicembalo in Rome, Feste Musicali Bolognesi, etc.), as well as Europe (Utrecht, Beaune, Bruges, Stuttgart, Versailles, Ambronay, Ascona, Locarno, Prague, Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Barcelona, Opéra Garnier of Paris, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, etc.), Europe, South and North America.

Furio Zanasi has sung under the baton of René Jacobs, Jordi Savall, Alan Curtis, Gabriel Garrido, Alessandro de Marchi and Andrew Parrott. After having debuted in the role of Marcello in La Bohème at the Battistini competition in 1987, he appeared with the Opera of Rome, with the Theatre Bellini of Catania, Massimo of Palermo, Messina, in Dresdner Semper Oper, Liceu of Barcelona, Zarzuela of Madrid, Theater Basel, Teatro Regio of Turin and Teatro di San Carlo, to mention only the most important.

A frequent soloist with Radio Swizzera-Italiana, Furio Zanasi has also recorded extensively for Radio and CD internationally, including works by Gabriel Fauré for Classico.

In 1994, the Academia Montis Regalis brought together musicians from all Europe playing on old instruments with an aim of extending the traditional repertory to the fascinating revival of the Early Music operated by the Italian "New Wave". The Academia Montis Regalis works in residence with Mondovi, under the direction of famous conductors as Jordi Savall, Reinhard Goebel, Chiara Bianchini, Christopher Hogwood, Ton Koopman and Luigi Mongiocavallo. His tours, which led him in all Europe, conquered the public and the critic: by its youthful promptness, its virtuosi control and the clearness of its style, this ensemble renews the sonoric conception of a repertory which we the audience has believed to know. For a few years, the Academia Montis Regalis has continued a profitable collaboration with the conductor Alessandro de Marchi. Among his pupils: Hyun Jung Oh (Mezzo-soprano).
