Rustam Yavaev (Counter-tenor)

Born: May 20, 1977 - Baku, Azerbaijan

The Azeri counter-tenor, Rustam Tagirovich Yavaev [Javaev], graduated in 1997 from the Astrakhan music school named after M.P. Musorgsky majoring in choral conducting (vocal teacher N.V. Kobtseva). From 1997 to 2002 he has been studying in the Moscow State Pedagogic University in the class of opera and chamber music (class of the teacher M.A. Ganeshina and professor G.I. Urbanovich).

Rustam Yavaev has been working in the Ancient Music Collegium at the Moscow Conservatory, where he participated in opera and oratorical performances of such composers as K. Monteverdi, Johann Adolf Hasse, J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, K.V. Gluck, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, F. Cavalli, J. Peri, D. Bortjansky.

In 1998 Rustam Yavaev was contracted to the Bolshoy Academichesky Theater for the opera-ballet of J. Rameau Amur's Surprisies to execute the role of the Amur. In 2000 he won the All-Russian Student Competition in the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia (1 premium). In 2001 he was awarded the diploma of « Bella voce» competition in Moscow. In 2002 he became the winner of the International Competition of XX century music in the city of Saint-Petersburg (2 premium). In 2004 he became the winner of the All-Russian Competition in Kostroma, Russia (1 premium). In 2003 he entered and in 2005 he graduated from the master-class of solo singing of the State Classic Academy named after Maymonid (class of the professor G.I. Urbanovich, The Moscow State Conservatory). In 2005 he became the winner of the International Competition named after Ilham Shakirov (Kazan, Russia). In 2006 he became the winner of the International Competition «The Amber nightingale» in the city of Kaliningrad, Russia (3 premium). In 2006 he has ended a course of training at the Galina Vishnevskaya's Center of Opera Singing, has worked on opera with Galina P. Vishnevskaya and on chamber music with Alla S. Belousova.

Rustam Yavaev repeatedly has participated in the festival "The Moscow autumn", performing the music of domestic and foreign composers of 20th-21st centuries, such as Sergey Jukov,Alexander Manotskov, Yaroslav Sudzilovskiy, Edison Denisov, Benjamin Britten, Oleg Yanchenko, Pavel Aedonitskiy, Vladislav Kazenin, George Paletsis, etc.

Nowdays, Rustam Yavaev plays the role of Madrian in the performance in the theatre "Sovremennik", Shakespeare's play Antony and Kleopatra, conducts concert activity across Russia and abroad. He currently lives in Syzran, Samara Oblast, Russia.
