Franske van der Wiel (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: March 10, 1993 - Ede, the Netherlands

The Dutch mezzo-soprano, Franske van der Wiel, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Singing with Elena Vink from the ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle (2012-2016), where she completed her Master of Music degree in Classical Singing cum laude two years later with Claudia Patacca and Marien van Nieukerken. She attended master-classes by various teachers, including Nelly Miricioiu, Margreet Honig, Jard van Nes, David Wilson-Johnson, Evelyn Tubb, Miranda van Kralingen and Thomas Oliemans.

Franske van der Wiel has performed solo in George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Brockes Passion, HWV 48; J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and St John Passion (BWV 245), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Magnificat (BWV 243) and Mass in B minor (BWV 232); W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Dvorak's Mass in D major; Rossini's Petite Messe Solemnele and Stabat Mater. She also performed the role of Dido in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas and the role of 3rd Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.

Franske van der Wiel was a member of the EVA Vocaal Ensemble (January 2014-September 2017). She works part-time with the Groot Omroepkoor (since August 2019; Director: Klaas Stok). and as a substitute with the Nederlands Kamerkoor (Director: Peter Dijkstra), the Choir of the Dutch National Opera and De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Directors: Jos van Veldhoven/Shunske Sato). She also regularly collaborates with the choir Consensus Vocalis (Director: Klaas Stok).

In October 2016 Franske van der Wiel won second prize at the Bach Vocalisten Concours Tilburg. In April 2017 she participated together with pianist Ruben Tekelenburg at The International Student LiedDuo Competition, where they reached the semi-finals. Since 2018, she has formed a regular duo with pianist Maxime Snaterse, who won a shared first prize during the Vocallis Festival in Vaals in October 2018.
