Anna Traub (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Basel, Switzerland

The Swiss mezzo-soprano, Anna Traub-Gulbrandsøy, studied at Humanistisches Gymnasium Basel (1992-1994); Gymnasium Leonhard, Basel (Matura: 1994-2001); Musikhochschule Basel (Preliminary year: 2001-2002); Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Bachelor / Master: 2002-2006); Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Bachelor's degree: 2006-2010). In 2015, she was awarded the Richard Wagner society scholarship in The Netherlands. This was covered in a documentary by the Dutch National tv (NOS).

Anna Traub is known for her profound and dark mezzo-soprano sound combined with raging coloraturas, and often praised for the interpretations of the characters that she portrays. She has been self-employed opera and concert singer in Europe since 2010. Besides being an active recitalist in oratorios, lied and chamber music, her international opera performances credits include roles as Sesto in W.A. Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito (conducted by Richard Egarr, stage direction by Floris Visser) and the title role in George Frideric Handel's Orlando with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam (conducted by Jan-Willem de Vriend, stage direction by Eva Buchmann). Other past performances include the roles of Marianna in Il signor Bruschino (Rossini) and La Marchesa Clarice in La Pietra del Paragone (Rossini).

Anna Traub was mezzo-soprano with Opera Trionfo in Amsterdam (September 2011-2015). In 2012 she had her debut with the title role in Georges Bizet's Carmen (stage direction by Floris Visser) - A role she has since performed in three more productions in The Netherlands and in Norway. With the Nieuw Ensemble she toured The Netherlands as Kate Julian in Benjamin Britten's Owen Wingrave under the baton of Ed Spanjaard and stage director Floris Visser. She was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Dutch Touring Opera from the season 2013-2014 to 2016, where she performed a.o. the title role of Carmen in La tragédie de carmen, Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte and the role of The Mother in Amahl and the night visitors (Menotti).
