The Argentinean baritone, Víctor Torres, studied singing at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, graduating in 1990.
After his debuts in 1993 as Germont from La Traviata at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Víctor Torres sang in many major Opera Houses such as the Paris Opera, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra de Lyon, Opéra de Nice, Opéra du Rhin, Opéra de Bordeaux, Opéra de Nancy, Opera de Lausanne, Grand Théâtre de Genève, La Monnaie de Bruxelles, Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Landestheater Salzburg, Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro real de Madrid, Liceu de Barcelona, Savonlinna Festival, Tokyo Opera City, Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, Teatro Colón, Teatro Argentino de la Plata. He sang under the baton of such renowned conductors as René Jacobs, Evelino Pido, Gabriel Garrido, Giovanni Antonini, Masaaki Suzuki, Michel Corboz, Antonio Pappano, Georges Prêtre, Jordi Savall, William Christie…
Víctor Torres' wide repertoire goes from Monteverdi’s Orfeo to contemporary pieces, including the leading baritone roles in La Traviata, Don Carlos, Rigoletto, Falstaff, Simon Boccanegra, Manon, Werther, Adriana Lecouvreur, Madama Butterfly, La Bohème, L’Elisir d'Amore, Lucia di Lamermoor, Don Pasquale, La Cenerentola, W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, W.A. Mozart's Cosí fan tutte…
In the past few seasons, Víctor Torres sang Endimione and Caronte from Rossi's L'Orfeo (Nancy, Versailles, Bordeaux, Caen), Nereo from Draghi's El Prometeo (Dijon), Il Vecchio and Anchise from La Didone by Cavalli (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris), Pasquale from Orlando Paladino (Staatsoper in Berlin), Germont from La Traviata (Bordeaux), Rigoletto (Rouen, Rennes, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne), Sharpless from Madama Butterfly (Flemish Opera), Il Postino (Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Teatro Real in Madrid), Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah (Lisbon). He took part in several productions at the Teatro Colón, including Cachafaz, Pepita Jiménez, Cosí fan tutte, Rinaldo, Beatrix Cenci by Alberto Ginastera, Fjord by Tedesco and Volo di Notte by Luigi Dallapiccola.
Víctor Torres is also very much sought-after as a recitalist and concert singer, and he took part in many recordings, including Ottavo Libro and Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi with René Jacobs, Monteverdi's L'Orfeo with Gabriel Garrido, Zeichen im Himmel by Erlebach with Stylus Phantasticus. A strong defender of the music from Argentina, he recorded Argentinean Songs with Jorge Ugartamendia, Canciones Argentinas with Fernando Pérez, Canciones de Guastavino with Dora Castro and Oda para Martín Fierro by Juan Navarro.
This season, in Europe Víctor Torres will take part in a Dutch tour with the Bach Academy of the Netherlands (condctor Andrew Parrott) where he will sing the Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi. He currently lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. |
