Sarah Toca (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: December 1987 - North Babylon, New York, USA

The American mezzo-soprano and music educator, Sarah Elizabeth Toca, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music Wheaton, Illiois (2006-2010); and her Master of Music degree in Music Education: Vocal Music Emphasis from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2010-2012) with NY State Initial Certification in Music

Sarah Toca has been Full-Time Lecturer in the Department of Performing Arts and Visual Culture at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, since 2013. Courses taught include:
RIT Singers (since 2013): A 45-member mixed ensemble; responsibilities include recruiting members, organizing and presenting 2 concerts persemester and rehearsal instruction; choral program began with 30 members and has grown to 60 current members.
RIT Chamber Singers (since Spring 2014): Developed and founded this course, Spring, 2014; a 20-member ensemble of mixed voices, showcased in 2 performances eachsemester; highlights include a performance of Away, by composer David Liptak, Eastman School of Music Composition Professor, accompanied by RIT Chamber Orchestra.
Advanced Music Theory (Spring 2014, 2015): The second-level of theory offered at RIT; course development included the implementation of 5 skills of: sight-singing, dictation, piano skills of chord-progressions in various keys, score analysis, and written theory and compositions.
Introduction to Music (since 2013): A lecture course with 40 students, twice per week; course development included creating and presenting lectures, creatinglistening assignments and exams, with the core skill of the class being listening skill development within repertoire from each era of music history.

Sarah Toca paricipated as a soloist in Eastman School of Music: Bach Cantata Series (BWV 21, November 2019). She currently lives in Rochester, New York.
