Iain Tetley (Tenor, Baritone, Choral Conductor)

Born: Norwich, England.

The English-born tenor and baritone and choral conductor, Iain Tetley, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from University of East Anglia (1990-1993); and his Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education in Music from University of Central England in Birmingham (1994-1995). In 1997, he moved to New Zealand in 1997, where he obtained Advanced Diploma in Travel and Tourism with Business Technology in Tourism and Travel Services Management from New Zealand School of Travel and Tourism (1998).

Since coming to New Zealand, Iain Tetley has performed as a choir member and tenor, baritone and bass soloist with Auckland’s leading choirs, and was a member of the chamber choir Musica Sacra from 1998 until 2013. His career roles include singing in an octet for the Queen in Taupo in 2002; with the late John Scott, former organist and choirmaster of St Paul’s Cathedral, London in 2006; the baritone solo in Carmina Burana with Auckland Choral in 2007; and the role of Zadok the priest in excerpts of George Frideric Handel's Solomon in 2011. This is Iain’s third appearance with City Choir Dunedin and the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, following J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in 2016, and G.F. Handel's Messiah in 2017.

Iain Tetley has been Conductor and Musical Director of Sing Waiheke in Waiheke Island (January 2002-December 2010); Auckland Youth Choir (January 2003-December 2004); Franklin Community Choir in Pukekohe (January 2009-May 2016); South Auckland Choral Society in Papakura (January 2013-December 2017); Cantorum Choir in Ponsonby, Auckland (January 2014-December 2017); and was a Deputy Conductor of Musica Sacra from 2005 until 2013, conducting Maurice Duruflé's Requiem in 2010. In 2008 he combined Sing Waiheke, South Auckland Choral Society and Franklin Community Choir, a full orchestra and eight soloists in the successful Auckland première of Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, a work he conducted again in 2015 for the 100th anniversary of ANZAC day. In May 2016, he combined the two choirs of the South Auckland Choral Society and Franklin Community Choir for a performance he conducted of Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah. He was the musical director for Fiddler on the Roof on Waiheke Island in 2011. In 2014 he formed a new choir called Cantorum, specialising in Renaissance and Baroque music, and in 2016 he conducted Cantando Choir in Hamilton in a concert of opera choruses and swing music. He has recently moved to Wanganui, where he is the musical director for Schola Sacra (since January 2019).

Iain Tetley has also worked as Head of Music Department at Croft House School, Shillingstone in Dorset, England (January-December 1996); Music Specialist at King's School in Remuera, Auckland (January-December 1997); Travel Agent at Flight Centre Travel Group New Zealand (December 1999-November 2001); English Language Teacher at Modern Age Institute of Learning in Auckland (May 2002-September 2003); Travel Consultant at American Express Membership Rewards Travel in Auckland (January 2004-December 2005); Travel Consultant at TMS Asia Pacific in Auckland (August 2006-July 2007).
