Sönke Tams Freier (Bass-Baritone)

Born: September 9, 1989 - Hamburg, Germany

The German bass, Sönke Tams Freier, began his career as a boy soprano, singing in many concerts with the Neuen Knabenchor Hamburg, in addition to performing as a soloist all over Germany. After taking singing lessons with Martina Schänzle and Frederick Martin, he obtained his his Bachelor of Music and and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance (2014) from the Musikhochschule Lübeck, studying under the tenor Michael Gehrke. In 2013 he was awarded the “Prize for Outstanding Achievements During His Studies” from the Lions Club Lübeck Liubice. At the end of 2015, he completed his master’s degree with top marks.

Sönke Tams Freier is a sought-after soloist in many concerts in churches and concert halls in Germany. In addition, concert engagements recently took him to the USA, South Korea, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Malta, Belgium, France, Denmark and the Netherlands and brought him to collaborations with the Kazakh State Orchestra, Tongyeong Festival Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker , Bamberger Symphoniker, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal, Landessinfonieorchester Schleswig-Holstein, Jungen Sinfonieorchester Hannover, Elbipolis Barockorchester Hamburg and Landesjugendorchester Schleswig-Holstein. He can be seen regularly on theater stages, most recently as Figaro, Masetto and Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte at the Hamburger Kammeroper.

In the field of early music, Sönke Tams Freier is a member of the Belgian ensemble Scherzi Musicali. At the beginning of 2016, the first recording of Antonio Bertali's opera La Maddalena, which recently won the Caecilien Prize in Belgium, was released with this ensemble. He gives concerts all over the world with the multi-award-winning men's quartet Quartonal (since January 2011). In addition to festivals in China, Taiwan, Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Slovakia and Poland, the quartet sang at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Händelfestspiele Göttingen, Rheingau Musik Festival, des MDR Musiksommers and Kultursommers Nordhessen. After their debut album "Another Way", "Everytime" was the ensemble's second album released in February 2017 by the major label Sony Classical. He currently lives in Hamburg, Germany.
